Ever wished you could view full quality HDTV throughout your
house without a closet full of equipment in every room? CMX84 integrates
everything you need to distribute all your HDTV video and audio sources to all
the displays throughout your home.
CMX84 is the most feature rich high performance matrix switch
on the the market. We support more signal types than the competition, plus
we offer unique features such as analog audio volume control and easy
integration with external HDMI matrix switches.
The entire CMX product line offers unmatched upgrade
capability. Please see our section on upgrades to learn more about how our
switchers can meet all your future needs as well.
The CMX84 has the following features

Flexible control options
CMX84 can be controlled by several methods, you can choose the
one the best fits your home theater control scheme.
Each output is individually switch-able. You can
configure CMX84 in one of 2 control modes:
Audio volume control
The CMX84 integrates fully independent input and output volume
adjustments on analog stereo audio using the best quality Burr-Brown line level
amplifiers. Why is this important?
The input volume control allows you to equalize the volume
from all sources to a common level. Many satellite boxes output volume
levels below nominal, so without this feature you would need to adjust the
volume manually every time you switch between Cable/DVD to satellite.
After equalization, all your sources will have the same volume level.
The output volume control is mainly used for two types of
applications. The first is to control the volume on your TV speakers from
the centralized system. It eliminates the need to use the TV remote to
control volume. The second application is for in wall/ceiling speakers.
Since volume control is built into the CMX, you can use inexpensive and high
quality fixed gain multichannel power amplifiers to drive your speakers.
Not only does this simplify control, but it will save you several hundred
dollars on the total solution. Please see our
forum for some examples of fixed gain amplifiers commonly used with the CMX.
CMX84 is the ideal amplifier for driving long video cables in
your home. Many vendors claim their products can do this, but very few can
accomplish this without distortion of the video. The most important
amplifier design factors in driving long cables are source impedance matching,
output connector quality, amplifier bandwidth, and amplifier current drive and
slew rate. Our amplifier uses the best components for all these, resulting
in the best signal distribution you can get. If you are interested in
video distribution, please see our
information page for more tips on
optimizing your network for zero distortion.
The remote control interface can use ZeroKey
infrared code cloning to map any remote control key to each of the inputs &
outputs. ZeroKey technology is compatible with virtually all remote
controls, and does not interfere with the normal operation of the remote.
Please see our quick start guide
for a description of how to program for an IR remote using ZeroKey.
ZeroKey programming is stored in flash memory, and you will
not need to reprogram even if you lose power. If you buy a new remote in
the future, don't worry, the CMX84 can be reprogrammed as much as you like.
HDMI expansion capability
The CMX84 has the ability to seamlessly add HDMI matrix
switching capability. Simply purchase one of our HMX series rack mountable
HDMI matrix switches and connect the RS-232 port from the HMX switch to the
expansion port on the CMX84. You will be able to switch the HDMI matrix
through the same control interface you use to switch the CMX84. No need
for a separate remote or RS-232 controller.
CMX84 supports firmware updates over the RS-232 port.
Future updates will add the capability to control all our new products over the
expansion port. Follow this
link for more information.
